The Week of Changes
This is a game where players own and exchange resources, and create cards which alter the game's landscape. Cards of Events and Chances are shuffled into a single deck and pulled out during the game.
To play this game, you'll need:
* about 100 small pieces of three different colors (Post-it notes work fine) for resources,
* about 8-10 blank game cards for each player (8 pieces on A4 sheet) for Event and Chance cards,
* a game field with six sections numbered from 1 to 6 — to place Event cards on it (an A4 sheet will fit them well),
Starting The Game
Before the game starts, each player should design and draw 4 cards--Chance or Event--of his own choice.
Chance and Event cards may describe any change of game rules except instant win (or loss)
Player can use Chance card at any moment of the game, choosing target player (including himself) or playing card against all players (including himself too).
An Event card states a specific game round (called Day) on which the Event happens, and affects only that Day.
Players should be referenced by some in-game property, not personality (eg. “the one who plays the card”, “the owner of top amount of resources” but neither "Me" nor "Peter Jones").
Resources can change their price only in increments/decrements of 1.
Events can be turned into Laws on the day they appear — changes described on the face of the Event card will then last to the end of the game. Laws can be proposed and accepted only via voting.
Card samples:
Chance card: "double red" -- the player targeted by the card can take from the bank as many red resources as she has already.
Chance card: "swap hands" -- playing this card, you should select another player, take all of his cards and give yours to him.
Event card: "day 2 - bank is closed" -- operations involving the bank are not possible during the 2nd day.
(if this Event is accepted as Law, the bank will be closed for all remaining days)
Event card: "day 5 - resource roundtrip" -- all resources are shifted clockwise between players (each player receives resources of his rightmost neighbor)
Three different kinds of resources have different costs at the beginning of the game: 1, 2 and 3 respectively.
As the game begins, each player takes 2 (two) cards from the playing stack (of events and chances) and resources from bank for a total cost of 6 (six).
Resources are placed on the table to be visible for all players. Chance cards are kept in the hand, so other players can't see them.
Event cards are immediately placed face down on the game field corresponding to number of day written on card, so noone can see what's written on the card.
Playing The Game
The whole game lasts for 7 rounds named Days.
After 7th Day the player with the highest total cost of resources owned wins.
NB: On the last (7th) day Events do not occur, and Chance cards are played in a special way.
Each Day of the game starts with opening Event cards on the cell for that Day — they “happen”. It means that everything written on the cards should take place in the world. Events occur in the same order in which they were placed to the Day cell (bottom card is first).
Players are taking turns clockwise, starting with the poorest one (who has least resources of all). If there are several poorest players, starting one is determined by voting (as described in 'Settlement of Disputes' section below) . Upon his turn, Player should take one card from the Events/Chances stack (if stack is not empty).
If the card is an Event, it's put to the cell for the Day corresponding with the day number written on the card. If this Day has passed already, Event is placed to the cell immediately after the current Day. If this Day is current Day, Event comes into play immediately.
Also during his turn a player can choose to do the following:
* exchange resources with the Bank (according to the current exchange rate) or with other players (if they want); Limitation: player can't move or exchange more than 10 resource units per turn. All exchange deals are rounded down.
* suggest to turn any single Event that happened at this Day into a Law. After the proposal everybody has to vote with their resources. If proposal is accepted by majority of resources, Event becomes a Law and will last until the end of the game (“happens” each subsequent turn).
* design a new card and add it into the middle of the stack. Cards can be introduced at any point, and there is no limit on the number of new cards to be entered into the game. But players can add new cards to the stack only during their turns and only one card at a time.
The next day starts when all the players have made their moves.
Finishing The Game
During the last day each player can only trade resources with the bank and/or play one Chance card from his hand. In contrast to all other days, player can play a Chance card on his turn only.
Player with highest total cost of resources owned after last Day becomes a winner.
Settlement Of Disputes
Ambiguities are resolved through voting by same procedure as voting for Laws. Amendment should be written on game card and put on table near other Laws.
